The article is devoted to the results of research of a vital problem for the current stage of development of the Russian economy in new geopolitical conditions. The authors mainly focus on ensuring national food security as a key factor in preserving and developing human capital, achieving the strategic goal of increasing life expectancy by improving its quality. Based on the generalization of fundamental and applied
works of foreign and domestic authors, theoretical approaches to defining the concept of "national food security" are systematized, the most acceptable of them for the modern research management process are determined. The article presents modern assessments of domestic researchers on ensuring food security in Russia, taking into account the threshold values of domestic food production and import of food products from other countries, as well as a SWOT analysis of ensuring national food security in Primorsky region, taking into account new external threats. The author's definition of food security and food security for the regional level is proposed. The features of ensuring food security at the regional level and the place of the Far East regions in the all-Russian rating are revealed.
